One Child. One Chance. A New Life.

Two years ago, a boy in Germany had a dream no one believed in. His mother was raising three children alone, he was bullied at school, his grades collapsed and he stopped talking about what he wanted.

The one thing he held on to was basketball. A youth center worker saw his talent and called us. We found him an American high school with a strong team, and my husband, a former professional player, trained him for it.

Today he is a starter on that team, a strong student, and has college offers in the U.S., some with full scholarships. The school offered him a major scholarship for his second year and our foundation covered the rest.

And then there is Blanca.

Blanca came to us as an exchange student. We lowered our fee for her, and in her second year we charged nothing at all. That year she lived with one of our team members in Canada and became part of the family.

Today Blanca studies international law in Canada and works with us part-time to help pay for it. We could not be prouder of her.

Help like this came out of our own pocket. The foundation exists so that we can do it for many more children.

OUR GOAL: 25 SCHOLARSHIPS

One scholarship, one child, one school year. Here is how it works.

From USD 20,000, one child spends a full academic year at a top private high school in the U.S., at no cost to the family.

Of every full-year scholarship, USD 6,995 goes to Global Horizons USA, our family's exchange organization, for placement, administration, student support, visa costs and health insurance. Everything else goes to the school and, where applicable, the host family.

Fund a full scholarship and it carries your name or your company's name. You can follow your student's year from the first day of school to the last.

THE LEGACY OF PAUL HALLGRIMSON

Advocate for Cultural & Academic Exchange

Born on July 6, 1945, Paul Hallgrimson was a trailblazing pioneer in facilitating international high school exchanges, primarily in the United States. Throughout his illustrious career as a teacher and mentor, he profoundly impacted the lives of thousands of students and families. His bond with Germany and Europe, deepened throughout his life, profoundly influenced his enduring aspiration to promote cultural and academic exchanges.

In the 1970s, Paul and his beloved wife Maureen, along with their children Daniel, Markus and Kristina journeyed to Germany, where he taught in Grenzach, Germany as an exchange teacher on the Fulbright teacher exchange. This enriching experience fueled his staunch belief in the transformative power of cultural exchange and personal growth that comes along with it.

Through his visionary work, Paul paved the path for countless students to chase their dreams and realize their potential in a globalized world. His passing in 2020 was a tremendous loss, yet his family and friends pledged to uphold his mission. The Paul Hallgrimson Foundation is the fruit of that pledge. Inspired by Paul's unwavering dedication to fostering the growth of young minds, his vision of a place where students from diverse cultures gather to learn, engage, and grow together, we carry his legacy forward, striving to offer limitless educational opportunities for all.

The foundation works with High School Experts GmbH, High School Experts Canada Inc. and Global Horizons USA LLC. All three were founded by Paul's son Markus and are run by our family. They place and look after every scholarship student, through a network of schools in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and beyond.

THE TEAM

Paul's son Markus, his wife Nastassja and her mother Gisela started the foundation on July 6, 2022, the day Paul would have turned 77. It became a registered nonprofit in June 2024 and has been operating since October 2024.
